My Daily Driver Is A Framework 13 Laptop With Ubuntu Linux But I'm In Love With Omarchy
In October 2026, I bought a Framework Laptop 13 DIY Edition with the AMD Ryzen 5 7640U for $626.00.
I picked it up just to have a good time with it, but it quickly became my main work computer. I love how it looks, and the idea of being able to repair it myself was a big draw. I was also curious to try Omarchy Linux on it.
Running Omarchy on the Framework 13 gives me the privilege of feeling like I'm in a 90's hacker movie. That's mostly an aesthetic thing for me, but it's a real part of why I enjoy this setup.
For day-to-day work, though, I'm still on Ubuntu , heavily modified with design choices I picked up from Omarchy. I keep Omarchy itself on a 250GB expansion card, so booting into it is just a matter of hitting F12 and selecting it at startup. The installation was very easy.
These days I'm in Omarchy maybe half the time. I'll write more later about the specific things I borrowed from it for my Ubuntu setup.
I should also be honest: it was DHH tweeting about Framework and Omarchy that first got me excited enough to buy the Framework 13.
My only regret about this Framework 13 is that I didn't get the Framework 16. The Framework 16 has two ssd slots. I would rather run Omarchy and Ubuntu off different SSD cards because SSD is way faster than an expansion card. With the Framework 16 I would also get an extra 3" of screen space too.
